Best Face from March 2011

I’ve been running around like a crazy person taking pictures this past month. I’m doing a ton behind the scenes with my son’s t-ball team and some school related events.  Hence, why you may not see all of my photography here on the blog.  But we did get a great day of sunshine at the beginning of the month.  I had a chance to get some great photos with my new baby, the Nikon D700.  I took this photo only a few days after getting my camera.

My Best Face from March 2011 is Angry Kid playing in the splash area at a local park.  We went there after school one day.  My son had a great time.

2011 Ultimate Blog Party

Hello There!!! You are probably wondering, “Why is this girl so angry” and “What is the deal with Mondays”?  Well the blog name was a nickname from a co-worker.  I started this blog almost four years ago, and the nickname was given to me a few years before then.  I used to work a schedule with my work days, Friday through Monday.  So Friday was my Monday, and Monday was my Friday.  Does that make sense? Am I confusing you? Well by Monday, I was tired, and somewhat Angry.  And really, it is kinda catchy, right?

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

Do you want to know who Julie really is, though?

Angry Julie Collage

I am blogger, which can be a bit narcissistic. I mean really, I am posting stories and pictures about my life. People actually read my ramblings, and they comment.  I guess I am entertaining most of the time.  I also have a pretty cute family.  My kid, well he was born to be a comedian, and someday he will be a high ranking official, you know Class President or something.

Angry Kid

I’m a mom blogger, craft blogger, photo blogger, lifestyle blogger…you name it. It depends on my mood.  Lately, I’ve been creative and a bit of a home decor blogger.  I get bored, and want to redo my entire house sometimes, doesn’t everyone?

But really? I’m a photography gal, an iPhone Queen, and an educated and experienced expert on privacy and personal security for the Internet and Bloggers.  If you have any kind of privacy questions, please feel free to ask.  I spoke at Bloggy Boot Camp on Privacy and wrote an entire post about it.

My life long goal is to get the word “Conferencing” added into Wikipedia and to actually learn how to use my camera properly.  Oh, and to make the “Popular” page on Instagram, one of these days! I have simple goals…

And if you want to get to know me, here are some of my BETTER posts in the past year:

I also host a Wordless Wednesday Link-Up every week, and I’m participating in Project 365: A photograph every day, with my iPhone.

I’m going to leave you with one last comment from my son today, “Daddy, you need to click on that “excited mark” over there.  What is an “excited mark”?  Dude, I think the kid is talking about the exclamation mark.  But really, “excited mark” sounds soo much better!

I can’t wait to check out all of the other blogs linking up!!

Things I see in traffic

On Tuesday night, I was leaving work and got stuck in traffic.  So you are thinking, traffic in California, of course.  No, this was 10pm…way to late for average traffic.  I was sitting in a parking lot of traffic on the freeway, only one mile from my exit and my house.  We were literally inching along at about 5 miles per hour.  So what is a girl to do? Well I looked up Sig Alert dot com (yes I’m a violator) on my iPhone to see what the issue was.  I saw that there was a large accident on the map, and that an ambulance was arriving.

Traffic in the OC

I was not too concerned about the traffic, because it was late and I was just going to go home and go to bed.  Ok, I might have been rushed because I still needed to write my Wordless Wednesday post.  But really I was not inconvenienced by the traffic.  I was in the #3 lane, which is the third lane to the right of the center divider for not technical folks.  This was a four lane freeway.  All of the sudden, I saw the passenger door open from a car, which was a about three cars ahead of me.  A young girl got out of the car and ran across the freeway to the side of it.  I then saw her run up the hill, which was covered with plants and trees.  I saw her pull down her pants and squad to go to the bathroom.  I was shaking my head, and saying a few words that are similar to, “What the heck”?  This area is not rural at all, it was the southbound 405 Freeway in Orange County.  EVERYONE could see what this girl was doing.  I then saw the car that she got out of, merge to the side of the road to wait for her.  When she was done, she ran down the hill and got into the car.  Like a minute later, the traffic broke, and the freeway began to flow again.

We were like one minute from the freeway exit. I’m not sure if the entire freeway wanted to see this girl go to the bathroom. Plus, this crazy RAN across the freeway, two lanes.  Sometimes, I just can’t make-up stories about the crazy things I see. Just another day in Orange County.

P.S. YES, I took the photo that night….

Wordless Wednesday: Studying Lego Instructions

My son is obsessed with Legos.  He saves all of the paperwork and instructions from his Lego sets.  It is probably a good thing that he is an instruction hoarder because a few times, we’ve had to rebuild some of his sets.  I took this picture when it was pajama day at school.  I found him asleep about ten minutes after I took this photo.

Disneyland, From a Five-Foot-Four Viewpoint

We received our tax return at the beginning of the month.  I paid some overdue bills and other things.  We usually renew our Disneyland Season Passes with our tax return.  We’ve done it for the past four years. But this year, I completely forgot.

I received paperwork from Disneyland for the pass, but I put it aside.  I decided to just renew my pass on the payment plan, the next time we went to Disneyland.  But, I happened to check Facebook on Saturday.  Every once in awhile, checking Facebook can be a good thing.

My sorority sister, Lisa posted on her Facebook wall that a fellow alumna was selling a gift certificate for a Disneyland Season Pass.  The woman already had a Season Pass, and received the gift certificate from a family member.  The best part of this, was that she was selling the gift certificate for a Premium Pass (value $459) for $300.  I may have screamed out loud, because this was a good deal.  I ended up meeting the woman, Wendy, at Disneyland later that afternoon.  I paid her the money and updated my pass.  Angry Husband and Angry Kid were out for the night, so I grabbed my camera when I went to Disneyland.

I was able to take a few photographs while I was at Disneyland.  It was slightly crowded on Main St., as High School Cheerleaders and Bands were performing.  I was able to take some photographs of buildings and signs at Disneyland from my view, which is 5’4″, looking up! Plus, I had to crop out all of the construction going on.

Painting our knotty pine bedroom furniture

Our garage has turned into project central.  My husband hasn’t been able to park his work car in the garage for over a month now. We had furniture, paint, and other assorted things going on. I hope to have everything cleaned up at the beginning of April. I am almost ready to reveal our master bedroom.  I just need to finish a few more things.

I’ve wanted to paint our Mexican Rustic pine furniture, that is in our bedroom, for quite some time now.  We have similar furniture in our family room, but I’m ok with that set right now.  I’m over the palm tree/beachy/relaxed look.  I’m into a more bright and colorful style now.  I’ve chosen to paint the furniture black which is probably the easiest option.  When you paint knotty pine, you have to really make sure that it is primed well, because the knots will be begin to come through the paint.

Here are the nightstands BEFORE:

Nightstands before they were painted.

After this picture was taken, we (well Angry Husband) removed all of the hardware from the nightstands and began to lightly sand them.  He used his electric sander.  I’m not sure on what kind or grit of sand paper that he used.

Angry Kid is used to me taking photos of everything.  He never wants to pose for my pictures, yet he wanted to photo bomb the nightstands when I was trying to get pictures this afternoon.

Angry Kid wants in on the furniture pictures

After sanding the nightstands, it was time to prime them. We used Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water Base Primer tinted gray. We painted two coats of primer on the nightstands. Yes, I actually helped.  It was my job to do all of the creases, edging, and fine details.  The wood really soaked up the primer.  We did the first coat, then let it dry for a few hours. It dried really fast. We did not paint the interior of the nightstand or the drawers. Really, who is going to see that part?

The nightstands are primed
Drawers and doors primed

The next day we started painting the nightstands with the black paint (Valspar Satin in black). It took three coats of black. We wanted to make sure not of the primer bled through.  I did not get a picture of the drawers or doors in the painting process.

The nightstands painted black

During the drying process, Angry Husband spray painted the nightstand door hinges with black primer spray paint. He already had some in the garage. He used primer black because I wanted a “flat” and not “glossy” look. Angry Husband reassembled the doors and hinges on the nightstand after the hinges were dry. If you notice the blue painters tape in the photo below, it is because the drawer and doors were REALLY hard to open without knobs.

Angry Husband gave me a deadline to look for knobs for the nightstands, so I started looking.  I went to several different stores, and ended up at Anthropologie, of course.  I checked the regular knobs, and then I went to the sale/clearance area.  I scored six knobs from the clearance section for $2.97 each with a regular price of $10 each.  I was quite impressed with myself.

Anthropologie Knobs for the nightstand

We put the knobs on, and of course, they look fabulous.  I forgot to mention earlier, that I ordered glass tops for the top of the nightstands and the dresser.  I wanted a fancier look, plus the tops wouldn’t get damaged from drinks, etc.  The lamps are from that fancy store with the red/white logo, Target.  The bird is from Tai Pan Trading (TPT Home). You can also see a sneak peek of the bedding that I purchased.

The After picture:

Now that the nightstands are done, all that is left is the dresser.  I spent this past Saturday night painting the dresser.  I was home alone and this was my project.  I am still exhausted and my arms are sore. How do these DIY gals do it all the time?  I still have two more coats of paint to apply.

My husband left the dresser for me to paint, alone. This is hard work. My back hurts. How do these home decor people do it? Do they have painting minions? Seriously....

I am excited to finish this project and move onto the next one.  Now, I just need to find the matching knobs for the dresser.  I had Anthropologie do a store locate for the same knobs.  I was very excited when a store called and confirmed that they had seven of the knobs in stock.  When I received them in the mail, I anxiously opened the box.  Unfortunately, they were a similar color scheme, but not the same pattern.  So I am still on the hunt for the knobs.

Project 365: Week 12

I’m exhausted from a busy year already. One of our big events of the year occurred last week. We had a great day at my friend’s wedding, but sooo much work goes into the planning..and money, oh the money. It rained most of the week here. It is so hard to entertain a wild 5-year old boy in bad weather. And I’m still working on our Master Bedroom project. It is a work in progress. We primed the dresser tonight. I’m counting down to my 2 week vacation, mid-April. Oh, and I hit over 20,000 comments on my blog this week. Wow!! I’m amazed, thank you everyone!!
