Friday Favorites #2

This is the second installment of my Friday Favorites.  On Fridays,  I will be sharing some of my favorite things that I’ve found online in the past week.  It may be pictures, or it may be things to buy, or places to go.

Black Tom's Shoes Canvas WedgesFavorites Shoes: Black Canvas Wedges from TOMS

I recently became a fan of TOMS Shoes.  My friend, Kelly, wears them all the time.  I finally got a pair of wedges and wore them walking all over New Orleans. I love them.  And the best part, my short little toes actually “peep” through the peep hole.

Meridian Furniture from Crate and BarrelFavorite Room: Outdoor setting with Meridian Furniture from Crate and Barrel with yellow accessories

This outdoor room looks so soothing and relaxing.  I am loving the yellow accessories too.  Now, I just need to hit the jackpot, or find a rich relative to buy me these beautiful pieces.

eShaki Ruffle DressFavorite Dress: Red Ruffle Front Cotton Poplin Dress

This dress from eShakti comes in several colors. It is only $54.95.  I would look great with a cardigan too.  I really love the ruffles most of all. Plus, the dress is a great cut.

Raindrop Brolly necklaceFavorite Accessory: Raindrop Brolly Necklace

So sweet and simple. I love the addition of the Swarovski crystal bicone beads.

Wordless Wednesday: New Orleans City Tour

While I was in New Orleans two weeks ago, I took a city tour with Stephanie, Tauni, and Tiffany. We hopped on a bus and had a great 3-hour tour. I got stuck in the back of the bus wedged between rude people whom would not move when I wanted to take pictures. Some of my pictures were taken from my middle seat, shot over the two people sitting next to me.

A minimalist Easter

This past week, my son was on Spring Break, and I was on vacation.  We enjoyed the San Diego Zoo, day camp, a Dodgers game, Safari Park, Cirque Du Soleil, Zoomars, and some much needed cleaning this past week.  We were quite productive.  We went got to sleep in a few days.  Angry Husband also took off some days here and there.

On Saturday, Angry Kid had the opportunity to decorate some eggs.  I’m not a fan of hard-boiled eggs, so this was a first for Angry Kid. Luckily, a friend had cooked up some eggs, and had a coloring kit to entertain the eggs.  You have no idea how excited Angry Kid was to dip those eggs in that colored water.  It was hilarious.  I’m glad that he’s easily entertained. Before we left egg dyeing, I mentioned something about an egg hunt the next day (Easter) and we made plans for that.

Doesn't everyone put Angry Birds, cotton candy, and Star Wars Pez Dispensers in their Easter baskets?Doesn’t everyone put Angry Birds plush animals, cotton candy, and Star Wars Pez dispensers in their children’s Easter baskets?  I usually go overboard and do a full spread for Easter.  I could buy a ton of candy and my son would not eat it.  I could buy all kinds of trinkets and toys, and they would be ignored.  I saw someone posted about the Angry Birds plush on Twitter and sent Angry Husband to buy them (Toys R’  Us) IMMEDIATELY.

I knew that the basket was a win this morning, when I heard “O-M-G Mama, the Easter Bunny brought me a basket full of Angry Birds that make noises”.  He also liked the added touches of cotton candy and the Pez dispensers.  We finished that moment off with some healthy donuts, and running around to get ready for the neighborhood egg hunt, first annual event.

Angry Kid counting his eggsI threw some quarters in a few plastic eggs and headed down the street with the family.  It was HILARIOUS to see the kids hunting for those eggs.  Angry Kid was very happy with the amount of eggs that he found, plus he got some bonding time with his friends.  It was slightly raining during our little hunt.  After the egg hunt, we headed back home for some more deliciousness (donuts).  Angry Husband and the kid, took naps, and I headed to the OC Great Park Farmer’s Market to Kristin and get some PushCakes from her.  I even thought ahead and ordered PushCakes for Angry Kid’s birthday in May. How can you resist layers of cake and frosting?

Yum dessert is in hand! PushCakes from @meringuebkeshpMy parents came over later in the afternoon with a simple basket of goodies, and more plastic eggs full of cash, rather than candy.  So we had another egg hunt, in my son’s rain, because the sprinklers came on in our yard.  Angry Husband rolled his eyes at my bedroom egg hunt, but it worked.  There are lots of good places to hide eggs.

Dinner was at Lazy Dog Cafe.  It is one of our new favorite places.  It was my parent’s first time there, and they really liked it. Win win!  Angry Kid entertained my mom, and said funny comments like, “Mama, why isn’t there wifi everywhere? There needs to be wifi everywhere so I can play games on my iPad.”  Angry Husband screamed from the front seat, “Some people do not have a home or food, and you are talking about wifi?.”  Yes, this is my family on a holiday.

And back to school for the kid today, and work for me….back to our routine!

Cirque Du Soleil Presents Quidam

Last Wednesday, Angry Husband and I had the pleasure of attending Cirque Du Soleil’s Quidam in Long Beach, California.  Angry Husband and I had never seen a Cirque Du Soleil show.  I know, it is shocking! It was the perfect night for us to attend because we both had the next day off, and my parents were able to babysit Angry Kid.

We took our seat and waited for the show to begin.  While we were waiting, I read that Quidam has its premiere in Montreal under the Big Top in 1996.  Since then, the show has toured on five continents and more than ten million people have experienced the show.  The cast features 52 world-class acrobats, musicians, singers and characters.

Project 365 109/365: A little picture of the stage for @cirque in Long Beach. #quidam

Young Zoé is bored; her parents, distant and apathetic, ignore her. Her life has lost all meaning. Seeking to fill the void of her existence, she slides into an imaginary world—the world of Quidam—where she meets characters who encourage her to free her soul.

Quidam: a nameless passer-by, a solitary figure lingering on a street corner, a person rushing past and swallowed by the crowd. It could be anyone, anybody. Someone coming or going at the heart of our anonymous society. A member of the crowd, one of the silent majority. The one who cries out, sings and dreams within us all. This is the “Quidam” whom this show allows to speak. This is the place that beckons—a place for dreaming and genuine relations where all Quidams, by proclaiming their individuality, can finally emerge from anonymity.going at the heart of our anonymous society. Angry Husband loved the first act, which was the German Wheel. The German Wheel is where an artist becomes a human spike as he spins, turns, twists, and maneuvers the wheel, performing gravity-defying somersaults and acrobatics.

My favorite part of the performance was The Diabolos.  The Diabolo or Chinese yo-yo is a child’s game that the Chinese have evolved into an art form.  Three Chinese performers each hold two sticks linked by a string on which a wooden spool is juggled, tossed, and balanced.  I was so impressed with their acrobatics while they were tossing the wooden spools, amazing!

Seeing all of the performers was simply amazing. We both kept remarking on their strength and talent during the show.  I can only imagine how much training and practice that it takes to put on a show like this.  Oh, and the music during the show was very intense and chilling, yet it set the tone for the show perfectly.

But I’m not going to give out all of the details about the show, you MUST go see it yourself, seriously!!

Cirque Du Soleil Quidam is being performed in Long Beach, today and Sunday, April 24th.  The shows on April 23rd are at 3:30pm and 7:30pm.  The shows on April 24th are at 1pm and 5pm. Tickets can be found online.

Quidam opens in Ontario, CA on April 27, 2011.

Disclosure: I was provided with two tickets to Cirque Du Soleil presents Quidam free of charge.  Angry Husband and I enjoyed the show.  A few days later, we are still talking about it.  Information about the show and photographs were provided by Cirque Du Soleil.

Project 365: Week 16

I got home from New Orleans and Mom 2.0 Summit last Saturday. On Sunday, my husband announced that he wants to go to San Diego Zoo, which is two hours away. My son was on Spring Break this week. He attended a camp run by his after school program for a few days, went to a baseball game, and we did some other odds and ends. I spent all day Thursday organizing the garage. We went to a local petting zoo today. And I still have two days of vacation left, yippeeeee.. Can you believe that I’m still participating in Project 365?

Friday Favorites #1

My son is on Spring Break this week, and my husband has taken off a few days here and there. Plus, I have been on vacation since last Wednesday.  So in between going to the Zoo, cleaning, organizing, and well living life, I haven’t had much time for my BFF, the computer.  Hopefully, I will have some time later this week to edit some photos, and write something tangible.

But seriously, when I do have spare time, I’m always looking at  nifty things to buy online.  So every Friday, I’m going to try and do a list of my favorite things, that is, things that I want to buy, have bought, or really I just think the item is RAD.

Friday Favorites #1

1. Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back – Retro Scandinavian Style Poster

2. You’re My Favorite Hello

3.  Party Bunting Frame

4.  Winnie the Brachiosaurus Planter & Succulent

I have to admit, I own #3. It is on my bedroom dresser.  I’m still trying to figure out what picture to put in the frame.

Wordless Wednesday: Alligator in a can

New Orleans has a unique culture and some unique foods. I’m a picky eater so it was really difficult for me to eat. But seriously, I’m not sure that Alligator from a can is a gourmet meal.
