RIDEMAKERZ at Downtown Disney

A little over a week ago, we attended a special event at RIDEMAKERZ in Downtown Disney, in Anaheim.  As Season Passholders of Disneyland, we always pass by RIDEMAKERZ but have never gone  in there.  I think it is because we know how car obsessed our son is.  It was perfect timing, because the event was the week of his sixth birthday.

When we arrived in the parking lot, we told him that we were going to a special place that started with the letter, “R”.  We have to get in a little education, right? Well he checked out every business until he saw RIDEMAKERZ.  He practically squealed when we told him that yes, we were going there.

JAD_3173RIDEMAKERZ is perfect for the 6-12 year old age range.  The concept of the store is that you get to customize your own vehicles, or RIDEZ as they call them.  You can customize the Ridez with different body styles, engines, parts, and decals to make your own unique Ridez. The best part (well my son’s favorite part), is that you can make your Ridez move, with an add-on feature of remote control.

JAD_3102Before, the kidz (awesome kids of the blogger’s who attended) got to customize their Ridez, we got to hear about the background of the company RIDEMAKERZ, from Larry Andreini, the Founder and ZEO of RIDEMAKERZ.  He spoke about the initial ideas, the concepts, the target age ranges, and how they figure out locations for their storefronts.  Angry Kid actually listened to Larry.  I think I need Larry to be in his school classroom.

Chooze

After hearing about the company, the kidz were able to pick out the body style for their RIDEZ.  My son chose a red RZ Rascal; my husband a Corvette C6RS; a Stealth Mater with a body lift for me.  I was overwhelmed with all of the choices.

Motorize

This is where you choose free-wheel or radio-control. The entire Angry Family chose radio control.

Mobilize

We selected our wheelz and treadz for our RIDEZ.  We then built and assembled the under carriage of our vehicles in the RZ Pit with the help of the RIDEMAKERZ employees.

JAD_3117
JAD_3143Customize

In the customization stage at RIDEMAKERZ, you can add speciality lights, spoilers, side pipes, hood scoops, roll bars, decals, and much more.  My son took FULL advantage of the customizing.
JAD_3152
JAD_3187Cruize

Your RIDEZ are finished and now they are ready to cruize around.  You get to take them home with you in their very own RZ CRUIZECASE (a box which has a great design and fits all of the accessories).

JAD_3171Moneyz (my own category that I made up)

RIDEZ are priced from $18 to $38, depending on body and paint scheme selected. Radio remote-control can be added for an additional $25 and custom accessories range in price from $2 for grille guards, spoilers and hood scoops to $15 for a deluxe “muscle kit” that includes a blow engine, spoiler, side pipes, muffler tips and roof vent. RIDEZ measure 10 to 12 inches long, about the size of a football, and range from approximately 1:14 to 1:20 scale.

Bloggerz

While I was at RIDEMAKERZ, and took some photos of the other bloggers while they were creating their RIDEZ. Here are a few of my photos:

JAD_3150Jim from @BusyDadBlog and his RIDEZ.

JAD_3149Aracely from DayTripping Mom and her awesome RIDEZ.

Cars 2 RIDEZ

RIDEMAKERZ has also recently increased their selection of RIDEZ from the Cars movies by offering four new Cars 2 vehicles, including Lightning McQueen, Mater, Finn McMissile and Francesco.  The Cars 2 line was released on May 16, 2011.  In June, RIDEMAKERZ will also be released a non-Cars 2 related, Chevrolet Camaro.

JAD_3115Dadz and Fatherz (Discount Information Here)

My parents came over last weekend to take us out to dinner for Angry Kid’s birthday.  My dad was completely fascinated with our RIDEZ.  Seriously, my son got a ton of birthday presents, but he is CONSTANTLY playing with his car that he got from RIDEMAKERZ.  My mom suggested that I get my dad (grown-up kid) a gift certificate for RIDEMAKERZ for Father’s Day.  I told her about the promotion they are having. (Seriously, this conversation actually occurred. I don’t make this random stuff up for my blog.)

On Father’s Day Weekend (Sat, June 18, 2011 & Sun, June 19, 2011), they are offering families to come on down and build one RIDEZ and get one FREE! This deal won’t include the brand new Cars line, but other RIDEZ like the Ford Mustang, NASCAR racecar, Viper, Challenger and the rest are included.  (Exclusions apply.  See store for details.)

Disclosure: My family was invited to a private event at RIDEMAKERZ.  We assembled our very own RIDEZ while we were there.  We got to take home our customized cars.  They did not pay me moneyz for this.  I was not forced to post this awesome post.  I typed up most of this on my own, and I even took the pictures. Ok, I may have been given an outline that helped me with my headings.  I am now a  little obsessed with the letter, “Z” now. So really, this post is brought to you by the letter, “Z”.

Friday Favorites #5 Accessories

I love a good accessory to go with my wardrobe. Whether it be a purse, shoes, or jewelry, I feel like a million bucks when I’m accessorized properly.  Even if my outfit is from Target, or Nordstrom.  I’m going to show you some of my favorite accessories, and/or brands.

Purses/Bags

Handbag Collage
I can be pretty frugal and pretty spendy. A girl has go to have dreams, right?  I put together a collection of bags that I covet right now.

  1. Epiphanie Bags-Clover: I already have a Belle, and she is quite beautiful.  I would love a Clover to put my laptop in.  It is hilarious to see me traveling with all of my stuff.  Camera bag, purse, and then laptop shoved under my armpit.
  2. Harvey’s Large Satchel Patwork: I love the colors that they used in this patchwork print.  I think it is great because you can use it for any season.  I love Harvey’s Seatbeltbags.
  3. Harvey’s Large Satchel Wild Cherry: How fun do these cherries look? I think this purse with would be great for the Rockabilly sect. Did I mention that I love Harveys? Cause I do!
  4. Louis Vuitton Keepall 45 with Shoulder Strap: I heart Louis Vuitton.  I am a purse snob, if you didn’t know that already.  I like nice things that last. This would be great for traveling.

Jewelry

Jewelry Collage
I always have things bookmarked on my computer. I have a VERY long “want list”.

  1. Keep Calm + Carry On Necklace in Turquoise from Funky Vintage Lovely.  I love April’s stuff.
  2. Molded Heart Necklace from Lisa Leonard. You can NEVER have too many Lisa Leonard necklaces.
  3. Modern Pearl Rosette Statement Necklace in Gray from Allora Handmade. Cause gray is the new black.
  4. Mystic Green Quartz, Gold Vermeil Marquis Earrings from EngLady.  I love the colors.

Shoes

Shoe Collage

A girl can NEVER have too many shoes.

  1. Asics 2160 Running Shoe.  I need new running shoes, like very very bad. These are the only style I can wear.
  2. Born Miss wedges.  I love Born shoes. They are so comfortable and no break-in period for me.
  3. Rainbow Sandals, Men’s East Cape.  I have wide feet, yo! I can never wear the Women’s Rainbow Sandals.  I love Rainbows.
  4. Toms Shoes Pink Glitters. They are pink with glitter, enough said.

Six Years Ago Today: A Tale of Pregnancy, Hyperemesis and Two Surgeries

I am finally sitting down and writing about my pregnancy with Angry Kid.  It is the first time that I’ve actually blogged the details.  It is nothing really dramatic, more of a rollercoaster involving drugs, and surgeries.  In 2004, we attempted to get pregnant, nothing happened.  After fourteen months, we went to the doctor, you diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.  So I ended up taking a prescription drug, Clomid, which is used to stimulate ovulation.  Clomid made me crazy, like insane…and I took it for several months.  Luckily, on the absolute last month that I was allowed to take the drug, I got pregnant.

I’m not quite sure how they have a show “I didn’t know I was pregnant”, because, I knew how pregnant I was at about four weeks along.  Really, one word can describe my pregnancy, and that is VOMIT!  I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum because this wasn’t just morning sickness.  I vomited EVERY and EVERYWHERE.  I was commuting over an hour to work, back and forth each day.  I pulled over onto the side of the freeway many many many times.  I would eat to puke. I lied in bed.  I sat on the bathroom floor. It was INSANE.  I lost over 30 pounds in a month, and almost had to have a PICC line installed.  Only medication for nausea put through an IV worked for me.

At 32 weeks, I had an attack at 3am in the morning at home.  I had severe pain in the right side of my body.  I thought I was in labor.  It got so bad that we drove to the hospital.  I was diagnosed with gallstones and admitted to the hospital over the weekend for dehydration also.  I got out of the hospital a few days later, and returned to work a few days later.  Yes, I actually worked through all of this, and maintained my sanity through ten hour shifts.

Pregnancy Picture, Angry JulieI wasn’t sure if there were any pictures of me pregnant out there, but I actually had some in my Shutterfly account.  My husband’s grandmother took pictures at my Northern California Baby Shower.  Just a few things that I notice…roundness (ain’t baby), pasty white, and wow, my hair.  I was a hot mess!!!

At 36 weeks along, a Wednesday, I had another attack at work.  Angry Husband and I carpooled that day.  When he picked me up from work, I said take me to the hospital.  I laid on a hospital gurney for several hours, pumped full of morphine for the pain, and no food.  They didn’t know how bad I was, so they did not give me food, in case of surgery.  I was seen by a general surgeon, and my OBGYN.  Good times, were coming soon…

I was checked into the hospital for the night, and given an Ambien to sleep.  When I woke up in the morning, the nurses were attempting to induce my labor.  I started arguing with them.  I told them multiple times, “my son is BREECH,  I need a c-section.”  I hadn’t had an ultrasound since I was 20 weeks along, but I knew, because there was no doubt about where my son’s head was.  Of course, they didn’t believe me, and they had to bring over a portable ultrasound machine.  They finally got it, and scheduled my c-section.  I was wheeled into the operating room, and given a spinal.

Angry Kid's BirthAngry Kid was born on May 19, 2005 at 6 lbs. and 18 inches long, FOUR weeks early.  He went to the NICU immediately because of breathing difficulties.  Of course, there was the gallbladder thing that I still had to deal with.  If you are doing the math, it is still Thursday.  I sat in the hospital, with my son in the NICU, for a few more days, without REAL FOOD.  On Sunday, an endoscopy was performed to look at my bile duct, gallstones, and gallbladder.  I was put out for this.

The next day, Monday, I had laparoscopic gallbladder surgery.  I had my gallbladder removed, and several gallstones.  I was wheeled back to my room, and finally fed some food, you know, filling items like Jello and popsicles.  Through all of this, Angry Kid was still in the NICU figuring out the whole suck/swallow thing, and was finally breathing on his own (no machines, etc.)  I was also that nutso, whom didn’t take any pain meds.

On Tuesday, I was released from the hospital….by myself, no kid.  Angry Kid wasn’t quite ready to leave yet.  He still had to pass the NICU carseat test.  He passed with flying colors and left the NICU the next day, May 25th.

So when people ask about a second child, or my pregnancy…I tell this story.  I get that look, like I’m crazy.  I don’t even go into my son have surgery at four weeks old for Pyloric Stenosis, the MULTIPLE febrile seizures (at least fifteen), or the asthma.  I’m so thankful for health insurance, seriously.

Awkward face...but here is my 6 yr old! Today is Angry Kid's birthday!I tried to get a cute “birthday picture” of Angry Kid this morning, but the sun was shining in his eyes, and I got the squinty face.

We went to The Lazy Dog Cafe for dinner tonight. Angry Kid got a grown-up lemonade which had sugar around the rim of the glass. He throughly enjoyed the sugar. This picture makes me laugh, because it reminds me of Tiffany and Danielle, trying to get the almonds off the glass in New Orleans.

Happy Birthday Angry Kid!!!

Wordless Wednesday: Scottsdale with Bosch

I attending a blogging event in Scottsdale, Arizona last week with Bosch Appliances.  I had a great time and now I want to completely re-do our kitchen.  I just need to win the lottery first.  We stayed at a beautiful hotel, The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa.  It was beautiful. I thought I would share some pics of the hotel for Wordless Wednesday.

My Son’s Mad Science Party & A Parent Fail

This past Friday was my son’s 6th birthday party.  His actual birthday isn’t until Thursday of this week. May is busy and there was no time next weekend to have the party.  I prepped the decorations and made lists for about two weeks.  I was out of town last week, and did not arrive home until 11:45am Friday afternoon.  I was cutting it a little close.

Balloon Wreath on our front doorMy balloon wreath greeted everyone at the front door. This was the start of my rainbow theme.  I decorated the rest of the house with balloons, streamers, and tissue puffs.  The main party took place in the garage of the house.  We had three tables set-up t0 feed all of the kids.  We were fancy and served hamburgers, hot dogs, and picnic-type foods.

Rainbow Birthday Cake with Rainbow Bunting on TopMy best friend, Stacey, made a cake for Angry Kid’s birthday.  I was really really really nice to her.  The best part? Well the inside of the cake is a rainbow of layered colors, six layers to be exact.  The bunting on top of it, was made by me.

Yes amongst the chaos, I spent thirty minutes making this bunting, because I’m nuts.  I used kabob sticks, twine (borrowed/given to me) by Erin, felt, felt letters, and glue.  I cut the flags and folded them over the twine.  I then glued them.  I placed the letters on the flags (bunting) and tied them around the kabob sticks. Easy, right? They are a little big, but I was working around the size of the felt letters.  You can only imagine how long it would have taken to cut out letters, by hand.

I included a photograph below of the bunting after I finished it. Maybe someday, I will do a step-by-step tutorial.  I was in such a hurry, I had no time to take pictures.

Rainbow Bunting for my son's birthday cakeWe hired Mad Science of South Orange County to be the featured entertainment at my son’s birthday party.  My BFF, Stacey used this company for her daughter’s birthday in March.  Angry Kid had a great time and immediately asked to have “the Mad Science people” for his birthday.

We had a great time and the kids really enjoyed the science presentation.  Everyone was shocked that they sat still for over an HOUR.  I know, shocking!!!  I’m going to include some photos below of Angry Kid mostly.  I am not going to post photos with everyone’s kids. I HIGHLY recommend Mad Science of Orange County.
Angry Kid does science experiments at his Mad Science Birthday Party
DSC_0097
Mad Science of South Orange County PartyAfter all of the fun science experiments, it was time for Cake…PushCakes, and Dippin’ Dots.  Yes, three desserts.  We had a ton of people over.  Our tiny party turned into the neighborhood party.

JAD_3068Don’t these PushCakes from Meringue Bake Shop look delicious? Seriously, Kristin is awesome, and a friend.  Everyone LOVED these.  Did I get one? Nope!! The kids snatched them all up!

But seriously the cake…Stacey said that there was FIFTEEN cups of sugar in it.  It was pretty and delicious.  I got to try out a piece of cake.  Of course, the cake moment was my total parent fail.  I took THREE photographs of my son while blowing out the candle, and ummmm, my son is in none of them.  Apparently, I focused my camera on the cake, and not the kid.  I am such a failure.  I will have to get a picture of my son blowing out the candles on his actual birthday.  Stacey’s daughter, Stella is in the plaid shirt.  Notice that she is standing right next to the Angry Kid, yet no kid in the pic.

Birthday Cake Pic with No KidIsn’t the inside of the cake awesome!!!! It makes me hungry for cake.  Stacey is a good BFF, and I owe her big time.  She made a cake for my son (I begged her), and she let me borrow her tables for the party.

My son's 6th birthday cakeAnd we had Dippin’ Dots too…. The Angry Family loves our local Dippin’ Dots in Fountain Valley.  Debbie the owner, is a great friend.  And I think Charlie, Kelly’s daughter, likes Dippin’ Dots too.  She was too cute eating her rainbow ice dots.

JAD_3096And since I got a little crafty in this post…I’m linking my birthday cake bunting up to the following craft link-ups.  If you email me, I might be able to explain the bunting tutorial a little better.

Project 365: Week 19

May is busy busy busy. We have had birthday parties every weekend. We attended a birthday last weekend, and we had my son’s birthday party this week. In between all of that, I work, and flew to Arizona for an event with Bosch Appliances. I’m so tired, I didn’t realize that my pictures were so small.  I usually post bigger pics fro Project, but today, they a tad bit smaller.

Friday Favorites #4 Blog Designers

I’ve been writing/blogging Angry Julie Monday for almost four years now.  It has evolved a bit since then.  In November of 2009, I made the switch from Blogger to WordPress after having my blog go down without notice several times.  This past week, Google’s product “Blogger” went down once again without notice.  I felt bad for all of the bloggers using Blogger or Blogspot because I’ve been there.  I believe that you need to evolve with your blog to keep interest and things more interesting.

Original Angry Julie Monday Blog Design
I found my original designer/design on ebay. I can’t remember the designers name but I paid around $50 for it.  As you can tell, I’ve always had a hula girl theme.  But wow, what was I thinking with that bright yellow background?

Current Angry Julie Monday Blog Design
In 2008, about a year after starting my blog, I wanted something different. Honestly, the bright yellow got a bit annoying to me. It was impossible to read. I contacted a blog designer, Judith Shakes Designs, for a custom design, as I was on blogger or blogspot at that time. Judith Shakes was amazing, and gave me a design entailing everything I wanted and dreamed of in a blog design. In November, Judith Shakes moved my design to WordPress with some tweaks in my design.

Blog Design-May 2011
In April of 2011 (this year), I contacted my friend, Cynthia, aka Nap Warden about some issues that I was having with my blog on the backend.  Cynthia suggested that I move my blog to a premium theme, Headway.  Cynthia moved my blog to Headway, and gave me a slicker new polished look with the same branding and graphics from my prior design.  I’m still re-working it and I have a ton of things to do, but I’m happy, like really happy with the change.  Plus, I have like none of the issues that I had before.

I think that everyone occassionally needs revisions to their blogs, and they just don’t know where to go.  I compiled a great list of blog designers that will move your blog from Blogger to WordPress, and/or also give you a sleek new design.

I am putting this list in alphabetical order to give no preference to any designer, but more options:

Freckled Nest Blog Design

Graphically Designing

Judith Shakes

Jula Studio

Just Another Mom of 2

Nap Warden (NW Designs)

RFE Hosting

SMD Blog & Web Design

There are soo many more awesome blog designers, but I’m tired, and don’t have them all bookmarked.  If you are a designer, please feel free to comment below.  Share the wealth, ok your information with my people who may need a fresh start, new design, or change from that Blogger platform to WordPress.
