Celebrating Stella’s 7th at Sky High Sports

My best friend’s daughter, Stella, and my son are two months apart in age. On the 16th of March, Stella turned seven. Angry Kid turns seven in May. This year Stacey held Stella’s birthday party at Sky High Sports in Costa Mesa.  Because Stella’s party was held on a Saturday, Stacey rented a private room. It was one of the best decisions that Stacey made in regards to the party.  The day of Stella’s party was a VERY rainy and stormy day.  It seemed like everyone in Orange was looking for something to do, so they headed to Sky High Sports.

Angry Kid at Sky High Sports in Orange County, CA

Sky High Sports is a trampoline fun center.  You can bounce forward, backward, or even do flips on the 360 degree walled trampolines.  They even have balls available for a little trampoline dodge ball game.  It was super fun to watch the kids bounce around on the trampolines.  Angry Kid had never been to a place like this and he had a blast.

We were supposed to go there during Christmas Break for their open play time, but unfortunately Angry Kid was sick.  They have several open play times during the week where you can pay a flat fee for an hour plus of jump time.

I utilized my iPhone during the party to take a bit of video of Angry Kid. I spliced several different videos into one, so don’t be hatin’ on my craptastic video skills.  After you see this video, you will understand why the kids were all so tired. Obviously my kid is the one wearing the green shirt and jeans. It was St. Patrick’s Day after all.

After some food and jumping, it was time for cake, well cupcakes.  Stacey purchased the lovely cupcakes from Kristin of Meringue Bake Shop, a local favorite.  I was able to get some pictures of Stella before and after she blew out the candle. I’m trying to make-up for my son’s birthday last year, when I didn’t get pictures of him blowing out the candle.
Stella blowing out her birthday candleUnfortunately, Stella’s present did not arrive in time for her party. I received her present via UPS this week. Stacey consulted with me on options, and I think Stella really liked her gift. Stacey had me order Stella a Spirograph. I hope that I’m not dating myself, because I loved mine as a kid. I could do those circles for hours and hours. I remember received one as a Christmas present.  I’m pretty sure that Angry Kid would want one of these if he had actually seen what it does.  Stacey and Stella came over on Saturday and we all went out to lunch together.

Hello Monday: The Hunger Games Edition

Hello Monday!!

Hello Hunger Games.

If you are not a fan of The Hunger Games, I am sure that you are over all this talk about the movie.  At Blissdom in 2010, I remember sitting at lunch with Tiffany.  She told me all about this book that I needed to read, The Hunger Games.  I ordered it online, right from our lunch table, and it had arrived when I got home.  I think I finished the book in less than two days. I was hooked.

Hello to Erin for planning a fabulous pre-movie dinner get together!

Hello to a rad gift exchange!

Hello District 11. I was assigned District 11, which is Agriculture.

My gift was some mini ceramics plants with herb seeds along with a mini veggie garden starter kit.  I placed everything in a box and wrapped it in brown craft paper.  I was going to stencil, “Greetings From District 11″ on the top of the box with a Sharpie. But Angry Husband had a better idea, and he whipped out a can of black spray paint.  Seriously awesome, right? I don’t have a picture of it, but I also tied some twine around the package.

Hello to ending up with Drew’s gift from the exchange.

If you have read The Hunger Games or seen the movie, you would understand the wording on the tote bag. “I Love The Boy With The Bread”, refers to Peeta Mellark a character in the movie.  Peeta gave the main character, Katniss, a loaf of bring when she was younger and starving.  The blue bird is a reference to a Mockingjay, a symbol within the book/movie.  And well, The Lucky Charms refer to the actor, Josh Hutcherson, playing Peeta in the movie. Josh is ummm, a tad bit short. We might have referred to him as a Leprechaun via text messages.

Hunger Games- District 11, Agriculture

My #hungergames pre-dinner gift that I selected. It was from @drewbphoto. It is #TeamPeeta based. Hence the bread, and the Lucky Charms are an inside joke. The actor playing Peeta is a wee bit short. The bird is a "mockingjay" but I also refer to it as a

Hello to good food and lots of laughs with everyone at dinner.

Wordless Wednesday: The Pilgrimage to England Part One

My husband recently took a two-week trip/vacation to England with two of his friends. I thought I would share a few of the photos that they took while they were there. This is the first installment of photos. I’m not sure how many posts I will do, but there are over 2,500 photos that need to be post edited.

The Leprechaun Leap 5K

A few weeks ago, I signed up for a 5K run on St. Patrick’s Day. It was The Leprechaun Leap in Tustin, CA. It was about a mile from my house, and I had the day off.

I signed up to do the race with my friends from Team Sparkle.  It has been awhile since I ran a 5K race, ok perhaps, the 4th of July.  I went to the gym on Thursday, and trotted a little on the treadmill to get some training in before the race.

Of course, the weather prediction for the weekend was rain, lots of rain. I started freaking out a bit the night before.  I realized that I had no long sleeve running gear, plus I had never really ran in the rain.  I put out some black shorts, green argyle socks from Target, my green sparkle skirt, and a green tank top.  I also threw a black zip-up Nike jacket into the pile.  I ended up wearing that Nike jacket during the entire race.

So Saturday, at 6am…I headed out.

Dude...this is happening right now. Going to run the @bookthatevent #Leprechaun5k with my @runTeamSparkle girls...in the rain. #stpatricksday
It was raining a bit when I arrived to get my race packet. I was cold, like very cold. At 7:30am, I got ready in the start lane, and off I went. It has been a long time since I ran, as I said previously. I was moving at a snail pace. But I finished. My finish time was not desirable to me. I have run faster. I know I can do better. But my schedule and life has been quite hectic lately.  I need to find more time to work out.

Finished the @bookthatevent #leprechaun5k earlier. A picture of @according2kelly, me, and @elisewallace in our @runTeamSparkle skirts.

After the race, I took a photo with Kelly and Elise. They are super speedy gals. I’m the hot mess in the middle of the photo.  Kelly and Elise ran super fast on Saturday. They were amazing.  Kelly even took first place in the Costume Contest on Saturday.

Kelly, first prize in the Costume Contest

Kelly is adorable and definitely deserved first place in the costume contest!

Now it is time to start training. My next race is The Color Run in April. I will be running with my friend, Megan.

Hello Monday, The St. Patrick’s Day Week Edition

Hello Monday!

Hello to Angry Husband returning from a two-week trip to England.

Yes, my husband was gone on a two-week pilgrimage to England with two of his friends. They visited castles, museums, and other random stuff in Europe.

Hello to Angry Husband taking pictures like this, A View of London from The London Eye.

Hello to me making fancy dinners like this, while he was gone.

I make fancy dinners and I always use the fine china.

Hello to working on school projects with Angry Kid last week, without Mr. Creative’s (Angry Husband) help.

I might just give myself a pat on the shoulder for completing the project. Although it started out like this.

These are supposed to be gold coins. Just another step in the #LeprechaunTrap project!

Hello to Angry Kid and his random cleaning sprees.

He was cleaning the bathroom before Daddy came home. This is the same kid that I ask a 1000 times to put on his shoes each morning.

Husband coming home tonight after his two week trip in Europe. My son is cleaning his bathroom to make it shiny.

Hello to my new baby.

Why yes, that is a new iPad. It arrived on Friday. Angry Kid and Angry Husband each have their own. It was time for momma to get one.

How To Catch A Leprechaun, Our Trap

My son’s first major elementary school project assignment came home last week.  The instructions were to build a Leprechaun Trap and then explain how it works.  This was somewhat of a challenge for me as my husband was out of town for two weeks.  He is the project person in our house.

I wanted something a little different than the average Leprechaun Traps that I see online.

Leprechaun Trap

The photo is a bit fuzzy because I took the picture in my kitchen with my iPhone. I went to take a photo of it today with my DSLR and the battery was dead.

I hunted down supplies in my garage, in my little craft storage area, and a mini trip to Michael’s to gather the supplies for the project.

Building A Leprechaun Trap

Step 1: Get a white bucket from the Dollar Spot at Target. Apply Modge Podge and sprinkle with black glitter = for the pot of gold.

Step 2: Small thin circular wood discs from Michael’s.  Paint with gold glitter paint, several coats as glitter paint is thin.

Step 3: Fill “Pot” with bubble wrap as filler, glue wood “gold” discs to top of bubble wrap, place chocolate gold coins on top of wood discs. {Gold chocolate coins were found last minute by Nana}

Step 4: Find a box. Apply green duct tape (there are a ton of colors and patterns now) in rows overlapping each other for grass. I could have spray painted the box, but I am NOT a good spray painter. See note above about husband being the project guy.  Find bunting from my son’s birthday party from last year in office cabinet. Stick bunting into holes in box. Glue down pot of gold.

Step 5:  (Not pictured) Apple black sticky material to box. Glue down pot of gold. Fill in area around edges with moss. I also found some plastic four-leaf-clovers on clearance at Michael’s that we glued down also.

So How Do You Catch A Leprechaun?

You bait the Leprechaun with a nice large pot of gold under a rainbow. The Leprechaun is walking through the greenery and then “boom”, he steps on the sticky surface which is like tar. He gets stuck and cannot move. He has been caught! Also, this trap is not harmful to any member of the Leprechaun Species.

We teach safety first!!!

Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day! Don’t forget to wear GREEN!

Wordless Wednesday: View From My Roadtrip

I did not notice the time change after-effect yesterday, but today Angry Kid and I really felt it.

Hello to Roadtrip this past weekend to visit Megan and her family.

Bless that wonderful iPad for keeping my son busy during our long drive.

Hello to Angry Kid fitting in with Megan’s boys. Three peas in a pod.

Really this photo explains all of their personalities. Hilarious! cc: @wmgg
Hello to crazy boys running around like crazy.

Angry Kid found “his people” this weekend. Usually his friends look at him like he is crazy with all of his ramblings. Megan’s sons, Gavin and Grady were like Angry Kid’s brothers.

Lunch cooking! Yummy tri-tip. @wmgg your husband's meat looks tasty!

Hello to Santa Maria style Tri-Tip.

Angry Kid told everyone that he has never had steak. Riiiight kid. I don’t think he has ever seen a BBQ quite like that and was confused.
