Bubblefest at Discovery Science Center

Last week, Angry Kid and I attended a media preview of the Sixteenth Annual Bubblefest at Discovery Science Center.  Angry Kid loves science and gets excited every time we go to the Discovery Science Center.  This was our first time attending Bubblefest though.

Bubblefest 2012I had to get the obligatory photograph in front of their signs, of course.

What is Bubblefest?

Bubble Scientist Deni Yeng combines science and entertainment by performing bubble art shows.  Deni has entertained audiences around the world since age 4 with his marvelous stage performances.  At Bubblefest, Deni Yang performs along with the Mega Bubblefest Laser Show featuring a high-tech combination of art and science using bubbles, lights, special effects and lasers.

Bubblefest, the Science Center’s most popular annual event is designed to help visitors appreciate and understand the scientific principles and mathematics of bubbles, and to let them explore the world of bubbles in a fun, hands-on environment.  At the science learning stations, guests can create a bubble mini-wall, bubble domes and much more, while learning about math and science principles like surface tension, elasticity, air pressure, and geometry.

Bubblefest 2012

With brightly colored lights, and tiny bubbles…the show started off with a bang! All of the kids were grabbing at the tiny bubbles floating in the air. This was only a tiny glance of the bubble awesomeness that was about to come.

Deni used various tools along with smoke so that you could see the bubbles better.  Seriously, I was amazed at how much could be done with bubbles. I was like a little kid again!

Bubblefest 2012

At the end of the show was an awesome multi-colored laser display.  And then tiny bubbles were released in the air everywhere!

Angry Kid had a blast at Bubblefest and I highly suggest attending the show.  There is also an outdoor festival at Bubblefest with an inflatable play zone, water spheres, and interactive science activities.

Bubblefest is only at The Discovery Science Center for a limited time, March 31st till April 22, 2012.

Entry into Bubblefest is included with General Admission to Discovery Science Center.

For more information about Bubblefest, please check Discovery Science Center’s Website.

Disclosure: Angry Kid and I were provided complimentary admission into Bubblefest for a media event.  All opinions and photographs are mine.

Hello Monday: Spring Break Edition

Hello Monday!

Hello Spring Break for Angry Kid.

Angry Kid is attending a AYSO soccer camp this week at a local college. He needs to run off all of this energy!

Hello to running again!

I’m slowly trying to work up my pace.  I haven’t really ran much in the past three years.  I used to do a race a month. Not-so-much anymore.

This view is from my neighborhood while I was running on Saturday.

P.S. My friend Casey taught me about a cool running hashtag for Instagram, #seenonmyrun

I just got back from a 3 mile run around the lake near my house today. This was my view while taking a water break.

Hello to Fieldtrip to Bass Pro Shops!

Angry Husband and friends wanted to drive out to Bass Pro Shops.

The people watching is incredible.  Where else can you see a tattoo’ed white guy walking around with a pitbull with a choke collar on, in the gun section?

My son and husband are a bit obsessed with the TV show Doomsday Preppers.  Have you seen it? I blame my BFF for their addiction!

Bass Pro Shops FieldtripHello Easter!

The bunny brought Angry Kid a soccer rebounder (only kid, I get tired of kicking that ball around), some t-shirts, and other random stuff.

I hate buying those cheap crappy baskets so I didn’t this year. The kid doesn’t like candy, so win-win!

He used the plastic eggs to catch bugs, gross!

He is explaining how he is catching bugs in the plastic eggs. #fedorable hat from @elislids. Total Easter hipster with his fedora and his @etnies shirt and shoes.
Hello to four hours of chaos on Sunday afternoon, after our dogs accidently got out.

Hello to find one dog, Bruiser at the local animal shelter.  Someone found Bruiser and brought him to the shelter.

I had to bail him out, and it cost me $70. Someone didn’t pay for the dog license in the past few years.

Our dog, Bruiser

Wolfie is the fast one. We call her the “parolee at large”.  This dog will run for hours and never look back.

When I got back from the shelter, I saw these flyers posted everywhere around my neighborhood.  Someone had found Wolfie, taken her picture, and made these flyers.  Angry Husband went to get our little parolee.  The woman said that Wolfie was covered in mud so they gave her a bath.

Dog drama today. Gate to front yard left open, dogs escaped. Gone three hours. One dog bailed out of dog jail at animal shelter. On my way home, I found these photo plastered everywhere. Nice people found Wolfie the other dog, and made flyers. I'm exhaust

Hello to a shiny padlock being placed on our front gate when the dogs are out!

Hello to another weekend of drama!

What, it’s only Monday?

And people wonder why I have the nickname of Angry Julie???

At least I did five miles on the elliptical today while the kid was at camp. Yay me!

I’m linking up with Lisa Leonard and her Hello Monday Series.

Insta-Friday: The sickness edition

We started the week of with a very early morning visit to the Emergency Room with Angry Kid.  My husband took the time to put on jeans and a t-shirt.  Of course, I was wearing my fancy pants, you know, Victoria’s Secret, and my chucks.

My wardrobe in the ER earlier this morning. Angry Kid is doing much better now. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers everyone!

While I was home sick with the kid for three days….plus one extra for me, our family excelled in Draw Something.  Angry Husband was nice enough to bring us our very own stylus’ to use. It improves my drawing by 360%.

Sick kid and his iPad. Husband brought home stylus' for each of us this weekend. He only uses the stylus now.

Angry Husband also went to the store and picked up this little care package for Angry Kid and me. The Dr. Pepper was for survival reasons, of course…

Husband went to the store to get me supplies to survive the day. Dr. Pepper for sanity. Dayquil for my awful cough. @MuscleMilk for protein for me since I can barely taste anything. Mucinex for the kid. Day 3 of sickness!

Hungry Hungry Hippos…Why do their heads always get stuck?

A blast from my past. Playing Hungry Hungry Hippos with the kid.

Since I was home and had so much free time, I actually got to finishing a project. The fabric had been sitting on my desk for three months. Don’t judge…

Since I've been stuck in the house for the past three days, I started and finished a project that has been sitting on my desk.

And finally, sickness has somewhat gone away. I am headed to the gym now.  I got some new running shoes for my over-pronating boxy feet.  I had to get men’s because the toe box is better for me.

My brand new @newbalance running shoes. Not very girly but unfortunately I have to wear men's shoes because they fit me better. #running #runoc cc: @runTeamSparkle

Spring Break starts at 1:15pm today! Wish me luck! Angry Kid is going to AYSO camp for four days next week, yippee!!

Wordless Wednesday: A Photowalk at Knott’s Berry Farm

Last Saturday, I was invited to Knott’s Berry Farm for an early morning photo walk before the park opened.  It has been a few years since I’ve been to Knott’s Berry Farm.  I had so many childhood memories come back to me while walking around.  I took a ton of photographs that day, but these photos are all from my iPhone.

How Can You Create A Smarter Life and Better Planet?

I work full-time out of the home, and sometimes my job prevents a challenge with family time. I want to make sure that my son does not miss out on those special moments and occasions because I am at work.

Bonding with my son

When we spend time together, I try to plan events and activities that preserve memories for years to come. Lately, we have been spending way too much time crafting. My son is a craft addict.

Now that Spring is here, we are going to try and get outside more to enjoy the outdoors. We are going to attempt planting a vegetable garden, which has been on our to-do list for quite some time.

We love going to our local farmer’s markets so this is right up Angry Kid’s alley. He is super excited to grow vegetables. My best friend is also currently growing vegetables and she has a pretty sweet set-up.

When I’m not at work, I try not to dwell on things. So having this garden will cause me to focus on nurturing and growing my little crops, along with teaching my son a little more about nature and being green.

Now, I’m curious. Tell me how you can create a smarter life and better planet, and encourage positive change for generations to come.

Hello Monday-The Fun, Food, and Fever Edition

Hello Monday!

Hell to a busy, yet crazy weekend. So many stories from this weekend, there’s not enough time.

Hello to Bubblefest at The Discovery Science Center. We got a sneak preview last Friday night. It was amazing!

We got a sneak preview of #Bubblefest @DiscoveryCube tonight. All the kids had a blast.
Hello to an early Saturday morning with Sharon. We headed off to Knott’s Berry Farm for a behind-the-scenes photo walk before they opened.

Hello to GhostRider Coaster at Knott’s Berry Farm.  The older I get, the scarier roller coasters look.

Love how the Ghost Rider coaster looks so eclectic and worn @Knotts. #knottsphotos

Hello to the bakery inside Knott’s Berry Farm and their famous boysenberry pies being assembled.

Watching boysenberry pies being made. #knottsphotos

Hello to Roscoe’s House of Chicken’ n Waffles with the girls.

Hello to a long 2-hour wait to get a table.

Roscoe's Chicken and WafflesHello to an unexpected febrile seizure at almost one in the morning on Sunday.

It has been three years since Angry Kid had a febrile seizure. We thought that he had outgrown them.

Angry Kid had a 102 degree temperature. After checking him out, some Tylenol and Motrin, we were released from the hospital a few hours later.

Sigh....the kid had a seizure tonight. In the ER tonight. Most likely a febrile seizure. It has been almost three years since the last one. Not a good way to end the night.

Hello to Angry Kid still sick, and possibly me too.

Hello to a day of doctor’s appointments and cleaning.

Hello to no work.

Hopefully Angry Kid will feel better soon.

Hello Monday and one week till Spring Break.

I’m linking up with Lisa Leonard and her Hello Monday Series.

Insta-Friday

Here is a review of my past week via my iPhone.

photo

While I was out dining and watching The Hunger Games with my friends, Angry Husband sent me this picture and titled it “Redneck Kid is Born.” Notice his new hat from Turner’s Outdoorsman. Snazzy!

Angry Kid and his BFF. Life-long friends. A nice sunny day.
Last Saturday we went to lunch with my BFF, Stacey and her daughter, Stella. Yes, my son has a sleeveless shirt on with a temporary tattoo from McDonald’s. We are classy like that. That tattoo needs to go. It has been on his arm for like three weeks!  Just a little observation, but this photo is totally Peeta and Katniss if you are a Hunger Games fan.

A little Easter Egg garland on the mirror. I just found the plastic eggs that I bought on clearance last year. I need some ribbons to complete it.
I did a little Easter decorating by stringing some plastic eggs on fishing line. I’m going to add some ribbon eventually. I usually do some kind of bunting banners to display for the Holidays but I got a little distracted in the past month and forgot to buy the fabric.

He is too involved in his game to realize that the groceries are piled on top of him.
This is how we grocery shop. His only complaint, “the French toast sticks were cold on his feet.” I told him to move the box.

Lunch: @ChipotleTweets, and a little Suzanne Collins.
Lunch during my work week at Chipotle. I’m reading Book Five of the Gregor The Underland Chronicles series from Suzanne Collins.  I’m almost done. I’m going to have Angry Kid read these books this summer. He will love them.

The Four Stages of Homework. This is painful tonight.
And last night, The Four Stages of Homework. Does this look familiar to anyone else? Seriously, once he started writing in his journal he was fine. But motivating him was exhausting.

Wordless Wednesday: The Pilgrimage to England Part Two

My husband arrived home from his two week trip to England almost two weeks ago. I’m still sorting through all the goodies that he brought home, and the photos of course. I posted some pictures on my Wordless Wednesday post last week. I’m including some more today. Enjoy!
