Wordless Wednesday: Fresh Berries

We went to the Farmer’s Market on Saturday and picked up some fresh strawberries. There is nothing better than fresh fruit in the warmer months!

Yum berries!

Let’s Hear It For The Boy

You are probably thinking about the song from Footloose with the same title, “Let’s Hear It For The Boy”….but this post is about a photo challenge.

UntitledTaken with my iPhone4.

A little backstory about the photo:

I was getting ready to go running last night. I asked Angry Kid if he wanted to go with me. He said, “I don’t want to run, but can I ride my bike?” I said, “Sure!” And off we went.

The kid is getting faster at riding his bike, and it took a ton of effort on my part to catch up with him. Luckily, we live in a somewhat planned community with lots of paths, trails, and sidewalks. I just told him to wait for me at each of the stop signs along the way. But I didn’t want to look like a total loser so I upped my speed.

Well, we ended up doing three miles total, and I ran my fastest pace yet! Yippee for both of us!  He kept asking for my water along the way.  I had a grape Nuun Hydration tablet in my water, which he loved.  I blame Kelly, Carrie, and Elise for my new Nuun addiction.  And now, I blame them for Angry Kid’s thirst for it.

We had a great time and he wants to do it again tonight! Wish me luck! Maybe we will go a bit further.

I’m entering this photo in the I Heart Faces “All Boy” photo challenge!

Hello Monday: The Running Edition

Hello Monday!

Hello First Week of June!

It is almost summertime. I can feel it in the air. Unfortunately, Angry Kid doesn’t get out of school until the 21st of June. Or is that fortunate? I’m not quite sure.

Hello to Running at Night!

I started my weekend (days off) with a little six mile run.  Angry Husband went out for the night, and I took a little tour of the neighborhood.  I’m slowly getting faster…that’s irony for ya.

6 mile run done! My picture is a tribute to @eclecticwhatnot. I'm catching up to you, Ruthanne!! Now I must ice my sore knee. #dailywhineI pulled a Ruthanne and took a picture of my Garmin after my run. I’m catching up Ruthanne!!!

Hello to a little June Challenge!

5 miles done so far!

Hello to Yoga Class!

I took a yoga class last Friday. My friend teaches it. It was hilarious.

Just imagine me, all hot and sweaty…slipping and sliding..all over a yoga mat.

But…I survived!

Hello to Angry Kid and his large appetite.

The kid ate the entire adult-sized waffle with strawberries and whipped cream.

I may have had one too.

He is quite proud of his adult-size waffle with strawberries and whipped cream.

Hello to wearing running clothes as my wardrobe!

I ran again on Saturday.  I had 20 minutes between running and going to the movies with Angry Husband.

“RUN” sweatshirt…a purchase highly encouraged by Danica. She’s an enabler, along with a Nuun hat.

Do I look athletic? Or maybe a sloppy mess?

The @nuunhydration hat and "Run" hoodie totally make me look like an athlete, right? Or just the "I don't want to do my hair and only own running clothes look"??? #runnerd

Wordless Wednesday: Artistic and Crazy

Yesterday I posted a picture of a worksheet from my son’s Open House at school. He kept writing that he was “artistic and crazy”. I think I capture that tonight while he was working on his homework. He even smiled for me. That’s a first!

Post Holiday Weekend Exhaustion

I feel like I have been on a roller coaster the past few days….go..go..go!

Does anyone else feel like that on these long Holiday weekends?

We started off the weekend with Angry Kid’s school open house on Thursday night.  He walked us around and showed us all of the projects that he had been working on all year.  We got to see how his writing and reading had improved since the beginning of the year, and some hysterical pictures of course.

Angry Kid's open house at school. First grade.

I saw this little project over in the reading area of my son’s school. I guess my son is really “artistic and crazy”?  And hell no, we are not getting two hamsters!

After attending open house, Angry Kid and Angry Husband went out to hang out with friends…and I went and ran….{loving my night running lately}

On Friday, Angry Kid had no school. We totally lounged around until 1pm.  I had to go get my contact lenses from the local mall, and Angry Kid had some gift cards to use.

I complained about some issues with my contacts, and the eye doctor realized that my contacts were too big for me. Of course, as usual, nothing goes smoothly with me. She had to order another trial pair of contacts, because I have “small corneas” and these contacts aren’t sticking tight enough.  Which sorta explains some of the issues that I have been having.

So I was telling @oakleyoc that the kid wants his own pair of @oakley sunglasses. These are a bit wide on his face but too large.
While we were waiting for the eye doctor, Angry Kid starting trying on sunglasses.  I admit it, the kid has good style, but very expensive taste.  He wanted some Oakley’s like daddy.  But the white frames, are so mama! I’m glad that I’ve raised him properly.

On Saturday, I drove out to Egypt Temecula for a birthday party for my friend’s son.  I forgot that it was a Holiday weekend and sat in traffic for two hours.  I loathe traffic and driving out to the Inland Empire.  It was a bowling party and my son had a blast!

Angry Kid bowling
Dark bowling alleys produce horrible pictures. Angry Kid is wearing a glow necklace in the photo, which makes him barely visible.

On Saturday night when Angry Kid and I got home, my parents picked him up so that he could spend the night at their house. Angry Husband and I both work on Sundays.  Angry Husband ended up dealing with a work-related issue all Saturday night, so of course, what did Julie do?

I went out and ran…..again…

What? All of these activities and it is only Saturday?

On Sunday I worked all day, while Angry Kid was at my mom’s…swimming…I had to drag him out of the pool at 4pm…and then we attended a neighborhood party where he went and swam again…

Angry Kid swam from 12pm-7pm on Sunday. I wish I had that much energy.

On Monday (Memorial Day), I worked while Angry Husband and Angry Kid hung out. Luckily, they went to the grocery store because we had no food in the house. I HATE the grocery store with a passion.

When I got home, we ended up at another BBQ. Once again, Angry Kid swam all day.

You should see our laundry pile and my to-do list…

Did you have a good weekend? Do anything fun? Any traditions?

I signed up for a Half Marathon

You might have noticed that I’m not blogging much lately. I’m a bit busy. My work schedule changed, again, plus it is almost the end of the school year for my son. Can you say, crazy?

Well instead of sitting my fat butt on the computer like usual, I’ve been spending my time running. This isn’t a new thing for me. I’ve had an awkward work schedule for about two years, which has pretty much getting anything done.  I was so exhausted with working, and family stuff that I have had no time to work out.

I have a new addiction to running and ummm Lululemon.  I’m getting to the point where I wear running clothes and my work uniform more than normal clothes now. Many people have asked me, “What is your goal?”  Umm, to get faster?  Seriously, I was getting faster the more I ran about three years ago, but it is taking forever to build up my speed again, and I am a bit older.  Seriously, everything is sore!

And then Casey tweeted this:

caseystweet

It was almost like Casey screaming at me, “Julie, just do it, sign up, you know you want to….come on….do it!”  Casey probably doesn’t realize how inspirational or an enabler that she is.

But, guess who clicked through Run Racing’s website and signed up for the Long Beach 1/2 Marathon on October 7th, 2012? ME!!!!! Yep, I signed up for the race on my iPhone. I’m so tech like that.

Dear @caseyruns @chicrunner @runracing and @runteamsparkle I signed up for the Long Beach 1/2. Time to plan my training. I want a fiesta post-race! #runlb

Time to up the training….

Casey recommended this program a few weeks ago via text.  I think that this was her initial prompt to get my butt to sign-up for Long Beach.  I’m going to use this program for my training, which will hopefully prep me for all of this.

Now, which Team Sparkle skirt color should I wear?

P.S. This is not the first 1/2 Marathon that I have signed up for. I signed up to the Tinkerbell 1/2 in the beginning of the year…but I knew that I had not trained for it, and I sold my race bib..{#flake #slacker}

Wordless Wednesday: Strawberry Sundae

After a day of school, work (for me and Angry Husband), running (me), and swimming (Angry Kid and I)….I made the executive decision to go out to dinner.  We had a very late dinner. Angry Husband promised Angry Kid dessert if he ate all of his food. The kid is usually just picks at his food.  He chose a strawberry sundae for dessert.

The kid is a weirdo. Slurping down a strawberry sundae.
