Wordless Wednesday: Yosemite Falls

Currently camping in Yosemite. This is a new thing to me. We went on a hike on Monday. Our hike was around Yosemite Falls.

Hello Monday, Hello Summer

Hello Monday!

Hello Summer!

Hello to my new running coach!

Isn’t he cute? He’s kinda mean. He yells things at me, like “Mama, you run too slow. You need to catch up! Run Faster!”

My running coach tonight. He might as well had a cattle prod. "Mama, you are not going fast enough. Run faster!" 4.41 done! #40milesinjune

Camping.....or some could call it hoarding.
Hello Yosemite!

I’m editing my photos from Yosemite and I should be posting some tomorrow.

I hiked about a mile to the closest wifi. CRAZY!

My husband thinks that I’m practically dying inside without the Internet.  I’m not…really?

Wordless Wednesday: Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour

Last week, Angry Husband suddenly got a craving for ice cream and demanded that we go to Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour for dinner, and ice cream, of course. I’ve been there a few times in the past year or so, but Angry Husband had never been.  I used to go as a kid, until they all closed down.  There is nothing better than good ole’ fashioned ice cream.

Too Busy Tuesday-The Weekend Recap

If you are a long-time reader of my blog, you have probably noticed that I’ve slowed down quite a bit around here.  With my work schedule changing a bit, here and there, and with my son’s activities, it is hectic around the Angry Household.  I have only a few minutes to myself some days, and I rather not spend it on the computer.

I have been trying to post my “Hello Monday” post every week, but I was just swamped yesterday.  We are getting ready for a trip and everything has been focused on it lately.

Do One Thing A Day That Scares You.
I found this tank top in the bottom of my dresser last week. I received it when I participated in Lululemon’s Run Club a few years ago while training for a race. I love that I found this tank, especially now that I started running again. Lately, my “One Thing A Day”… is running.  I know that I’m the best or fastest runner, but at least I am getting out there and trying.

Do I have to get out?
Can you tell that summer has started?  I had to drag my son out of the pool at my mom’s house the other day.  The kid is a fish and could swim for hours.

Along my run....
We had a good Father’s Day on Sunday. Angry Husband and I both worked. I got my dad a watch from Angry Kid and me. Angry Husband has been lusting over a backpack, and I got him the backpack that he wanted. Of course, there is a defect on it, so I need to exchange it. But he was genuinely surprised about the backpack. I think Angry Kid is a bit jealous of the backpack, and might try to steal it.

On the weekend, I had a visitor over, Janice from 5 Minutes For Mom.  Angry Kid loves Janice.  It is quite funny how chatty he gets with her.  I like to call Janice, The “Canadian Julie”.  Although, when I’m with Janice, I can see how bad my ADD is.  We took Janice for some American food at Ruby’s Diner.  Janice was sorta freaked out about seeing the calories on the menu at the restaurant.  Janice was here in California as media for California Adventure’s Cars Land opening last week.

Rock of Ages
After dinner, we headed to the movies. We all agreed to see “Rock of Ages” which had just opened that night. Janice wasn’t quite sure on the movie because of the “Tom Cruise” factor.

The movie was so awesome. The casting and the music was phenomenal.  I totally relived my childhood with the music.  I knew all of the words to the songs. How often does that happen?  Seriously, I highly recommend this movie. And Tom Cruise totally redeemed himself. He is still crazy as hell. But he played an awesome has-been rockstar!

Is this week over yet? Can I start my vacation now?

Do you have any summer trips or vacations planned?

Father’s Day and Dove Men+Care with a Giveaway

Father’s Day is coming up, this Sunday, as a matter of fact.  We are super busy right now and I just realized that the 17th is this weekend.  Mother’s Day is always right before our son’s birthday, so that kinda gets lost in the whole birthday chaos.  We are planning a camping trip and we are living in a little over a week, so everything is focused there.  I even spoke to a friend recently and she said that she almost forgot about Father’s Day too, since so much is going on in her life.

DSC_0149

I’m trying to figure out what to get my husband and my dad for Father’s Day. I’m thinking that Saturday, Angry Kid and I will go shopping for the hubs…something camping related, possibly.  I will get my dad something summer-related like swim trunks or new sandals.  I’m such a slacker about things like this.

Angry Husband and I both work on Sunday, so we will probably do a BBQ or something like that at our house for Father’s Day. We are kinda low-key like that.

But really, a camping trip for six days in Yosemite. Isn’t that like a week-long gift?

Dove Men+Care

Dove recently sent Angry Husband some of their Dove Men+Care line for Angry Husband to try out. My husband has sensitive skin and he is very particular about the products that he uses.  I think I shall call this an early Father’s Day gift.  I mean really, Angry Husband keeps telling me that I need to buy some soap.  And Dove delivered it right to our house!  Angry Husband loves the products and especially the body wash. He said that it smelled good.

And because Father’s Day is just around the corner, I want to celebrate the awesome Dad Bloggers out there. Did you know that there are some awesome dad bloggers? Well there are ton of them, but I do have some favorites!

Meet Jim, From Busy Dad Blog

Jim @BusyDadBlog at RIDEMAKERZ
Jim is an awesome dad. I met Jim at The BlogHer Conference in 2009. Wow, that sounds forever in blog terms. I knew that Jim was awesome when he handed me a Lego as a business card with his name written on it in Sharpie.  Jim has two kiddos, a son and a daughter.

I would have to say that Jim is pretty much the Asian version of Angry Husband. He likes Star Wars, Legos, the outdoors, MMA style fighting, and loves to cook.  I love a dad that can cook! Thankfully, Angry Husband is the cook in our household.

Happy Father’s Day Jim!

As part of this Father’s Day Celebration, I’m also hosting a giveaway of Dove’s Men+Care Products!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Disclosure: I was compensated for this Dove Men+Care post via The Motherhood. We received products and also a cash stipend. Hosting fees and blog stuff can get expensive, yo!!! The body wash really smells good, just sayin’.

Wordless Wednesday: A Wild Summer at Discovery Science Center

On Saturday we were invited to a special “media” preview of an exhibit for the summer titled “Wildlife Rescue” at Discovery Science Center.  We were treated to a hands-on “petting zoo” of lizards, snakes, frogs, and other unique creatures.  Angry Kid was especially excited to see all of these creatures.

Hello Monday: Busy As Usual

Hello Monday!!!

Hello Day 2 of My Work Week!

Hello to starting off the weekend without any rest.

Hello Cake!

I met an old friend for frozen yogurt and umm cake last week.  We went to the 85C Bakery. It is super popular here and always crowded.

Afternoon cake date with an old friend.

Hello to the fabric store.

I’ve been away from the sewing machine for quite some time.  I went to the fabric store on Friday and saw all kinds of goodness.

I got some patriotic fabric which I actually went to the store for…and USC fabric….and my Star Wars fabric.

If I see Star Wars fabric, I buy at least one yard if I don’t have it already.  You never know when you might have to do a Star Wars project, right?

There is way too much going on in this shopping cart. Stocking up for future projects.

Hello Early Saturday Morning at Discovery Science Center!

We were treated to an early morning preview of their Wild Summer Program.

Angry Kid made a new friend, a green tree frog.

Angry Kid with a green tree frog on his arm @DiscoveryCube. #wildsummer

Hello Summer Races!

After leaving Discovery Science Center, we headed to Snail’s Pace where I signed up myself and Angry Kid for Huntington Beach’s 4th of July 5K Run. Angry Kid is doing the one mile kid’s run.

Hello New Shoes!

I blame my friend Casey, for this purchase of Saucony Kinvara 3’s. Totally her fault!

I completed 18.7 miles in the first week of June for the #40milesinjune challenge!

Showing off my new pretty @Saucony Kinvara 3's. My week 1 reward for #40milesinjune. Like I needed an excuse to buy them, right? Actually I blame @caseyruns! 18.7 miles done!

Hello Monday!

Hello to running in my new fancy shoes!

Hello to catching up with blogging.

I have some reviews and other fun things to work on!!!!

Linking up with Lisa Leonard and her Hello Monday Series!

Disclosure: I was invited to Discovery Science Center for a preview of their summer programs. Angry Kid and I were admitted free of charge. All opinions are mine. I will blog more about their summer stuff this week.

Team Sparkle does Ragnar Relay SoCal, The Support Crew Version

A few months ago, my friend Kelly asked a favor of me.  Kelly asked me if I would help with support/photography/social media for the SoCal Ragnar Relay.  She and five other friends were going to run the race as an Ultra Team (6 runners, instead of the usual 12), and needed to focus on running rather than taking photos or tweeting along the way.  Of course, I said yes, as a good friend would.  I later realized that this was a busy weekend and I had at least three other events that I was invited to.  But helping and cheering on, Team Sparkle, was a blast and well worth it.

You are probably wondering….What is a Ragnar Relay?  You can find out here on the Ragnar site all about the race.

Team Sparkle Ultra SoCal Ragnar

We all met up at Carrie’s house early on Friday morning (April 20, 2012) to prep/organize before we drove to the start of the race in Huntington Beach.  I need to remind myself not to order such big shirts. By the way that’s me in the orange sparkle skirt with the really puffy shirt.  We took a Team photo before we left. On the far left is Mark from Hit The Mark Fitness. He was our driver and also trainer/physical therapist along the way.

Ragnar SoCal 2012

We rented a van for the journey and with the help of the help of the kid’s in her neighborhood, Kelly arrived with the van fulled decorated in a rad rainbow pattern!!  Child labor is awesome!  We got a ton of attention with that van. You couldn’t miss it along the course.  Kelly also had magnets made with the team name, Team Sparkle and the list of sponsors with their logos.

Before the race started, I took a picture of Team Sparkle Ultra showing all of their excitement!  Obviously they had a ton of energy and were ready to run all of those miles….silly girls, they are CRAZY!

Ragnar SoCal 2012
Linda ran the first leg of the race and she was super determined. Look at her, you can almost feel the speed!

Because Team Sparkle was running the Ultra instead of the regular-style Ragnar, we had to be very organized.  Usually Ragnar is ran with a team using 2 vans/vehicles full of people that alternate.  We had 6 runners and one van.  We paced our runners as much as we could, but sometimes, we had to hurry and get to the next exchange.  We were almost late a few times.

When we had extra time, I got more pictures, and sometimes I got none.  I was also Instagram‘ing pictures along the way and tweeting from Team Sparkle’s Twitter account, plus my account.  And commenting/retweeting other teams using the #RagnarSoCal hashtag.

Here are a few of my favorite photos along the way (in no particular order):

Elise standing in front of this Corona Lake sign. I just had to take this photo. It was hilarious.

And yes, I actually got some night shots. I was trying to avoid my big ole’ flash. I was pretty sure that the runners didn’t want to be blinded along the way..

Plus I did nap a little during the night, along with everyone else.  I’m talking brief naps, like 20-30 minutes here and there.

Now you are probably wondering about the team, and how far did they actually run?

Well let me introduce you to them!

Team Sparkle Ultra

So Cal Ragnar Relay 2012

Team Sparkle SoCal Ragnar
Team Sparkle SoCal Ragnar Team
Of course, there were some issues along the way.

  • Making sure that we got to the next exchange in time.
  • Eating…(we may have stopped at Taco Bell and McDonald’s along the way).
  • Running out of water.
  • Getting some sleep.
  • Soreness and injuries.
  • Bathroom issues (And I am not talking about finding bathrooms).
  • Stomach cramps (lack of proper food).
  • The smell (women don’t always smell like delicate flowers).
  • Breast Pumps (A nursing mother).

But when six women are running a relay race of 200+ miles, there are going to be some issues.

But is all worth it when you are sprinting to the finish line with your team in your running gear, sore feet, and sometimes even, flip flops..

Ragnar SoCal 2012

For the final VICTORY finish!

Ragnar SoCal 2012

You probably think that these girls are crazy, right?

  • They ran 203.5+ miles (with some extra miles by Kelly, which were totally not her fault).
  • They placed 2nd in their Division-Ultra-Women-Open, and 49th overall with over 500 teams racing.
  • They also ran the race with 6 Ultra Runners in 29:30:45.5 with an average per mile pace of 8:42.

And

They won the Personality Award for Homecoming (Best Team Spirit)!

Ragnar SoCal 2012
Pretty inspirational, right?
And everyone keeps asking me why I started running so much lately?
Gee I wonder?

So when is the next Ragnar Relay ladies?

Oh, and a moment for our sponsors…who helped everyone survive the journey of the 2012 SoCal Ragnar Relay!

and at the end of the day, I survived it all…

with over 500 photos taken with my Nikon, plus 50 or so on my iPhone…

Just peeled off my clothes after two days at #ragnarsocal. Worked crew for @runTeamSparkle. Only 500 or so photos to edit. Prepped and ready for @thecolorrun tomorrow! Sitting in a van for two days, sleep, and 5K tomorrow! #teamsparkle
MUST take even more photos next time!
And also, get myself and awesome drivers like Mark in the pictures!
but alas Mark was too busy driving and I was the one with the camera.

Will I ever run a Ragnar Relay?
Someday maybe, but let me just finish this Half Marathon that I signed up to do in October.
