Show Us Where You Live Friday: Home Office

Since last weeks post of Children’s Rooms, I’m posting the “before” pictures of the rooms in our house. We bought the house in November of 2005.

Our home office had a white wood built in. I think this built-in was original to the house. The built-in looks like it has lots of storage, right? But it was falling apart. Plus Angry Toddler loved to climb it when he was just a baby.

Here are the pictures:
(These were taken at the home inspection, previous owner’s stuff).

I love the French doors. I think they are the only thing that we kept in this room. You can see the built-in on the left side of the picture.

This is overall view of built-in taken from the French doors.
The desk.

Here are the “afters”:

We got a custom built-in desk put on the opposite wall. We have it framed around the window. We also took out the pink carpeting and put in wood floors. The wood floors in the office aren’t an exact match to the rest of the house, but they are pretty close. The A-Z rug is from Pottery Barn Kids. I bought it pretty cheap on ebay.

A closer look at the big wall of the built-in. The paint on the walls is a blue-gray color. It’s really not this bright. It just looks bright in the photos. Eventually there will be something on the big blue wall. Right now it’s blank. We got this done when Angry Toddler was into EVERYTHING. If you look closely, you can see the “keyed” locks on all the cabinets.

This is the wall that the old built-in was originally on. The shelves are from Pottery Barn. The little table and chairs are from Pottery Barn Kids. Angry Toddler is going to have a computer on this desk. Angry Husband’s friend is currently building the computer. I’m sure that he will be in high school by the time that it is done.

My lovely bulletin board from Target. I put odds and ends on there. My favorite thing is Angry Toddler’s artwork. Did you notice the black sheep? I had to save that. I just thought it was hilarious that Angry Toddler made a black sheep.

This is our office. If you want to see “MY” real office, you should check our dining room. I use my MacBook on the dining room table. The computer in our office is actually Angry Husband’s Dell. He uses it for “gaming”.

A couple of weeks ago, on the day of Angry Toddler’s 4th Birthday Party…I got to have a very special blogger meet-up. I finally got to have a meet-up with the infamous JJ of The BLAH BLAH BLAHger. JJ came over to take some photographs of Angry Toddler. It has been awhile since I actually got some good photos of Angry Toddler. JJ was amazing with him. He wasn’t shy at all.

She took a ton of fabulous photos and e-mailed me a few the next day along with a link to preview them later. They turned out beautiful. Angry Husband was definitely impressed. He told me that I need to hang out with JJ more.

Here is the link to JJ’s photography site, Jen Johnson Photography. Here are the photos that she took of Angry Toddler.

This was the very first time that I met JJ. Even though we live relatively close to each other. I met JJ through my friend Lindsay, from Living with Lindsay. Lindsay and I met through a parenting forum a few years ago. Lindsay went to Grad School with JJ. I’m glad that I’m friends with both of them now. I think Lindsay needs to make a trip out here to Cali.

I asked JJ to do a little bio about herself, and all of her fabulousness….

JJ is the BLAH BLAH BLAHger and blah blah blahs on DIY projects, conquering her fear of the kitchen, learning photography, creating a castle out of a condo, entertaining, and life in the OC. She loves wine, weddings, trashy novels and chick flicks, Diet Coke, her niece and nephew, Candice Olson designs, Jesus and Mariners Church. During the day, she toils away as the director of public affairs for a land developer, who forced her to take golf lessons and therefore created a monster…she’s no good, but loves spending her days outside on the golf course. She also spends WAY too much time on her blahg, creating a photoblog for a soon to be open photography side business, and catching up with her boyfriend TiVo. Want to know more? What I Learned This Week

Life is incredibly busy for me right now. At the beginning of May, actually Mother’s Day, I switched shifts at work. I’m now working weekend nights. It’s a pretty hard shift when you have a family. Luckily, I only work this shift about 4 months out of the year. It really messes with my body. When I get really busy, I find it very hard to motivate myself when I have some downtime. Downtime, what’s that? I work Fridays-Mondays. Angry Toddler has gymnastics on Tuesday nights. Almost every Wednesday, I have something planned, and Thursdays I have run club.

I really have to write everything down to get myself organized. Luckily I have my Blackberry which has an awesome calendar function. I sync it with my Google Calendar. This really saves me from over-programming myself. I almost signed up for some overtime this week on a day that I had a very important Junior League meeting.

I’ve trying to get especially organized with my Blog lately. It’s really coming together and I have a good feeling about it. I have all sorts of ideas in my head, but not enough time in the day. I could literally do two to three blog posts a day if I wrote down everything that goes on inside my head. Thankfully, for Twitter, I can post my ramblings. Kirsten from Wright Creativity gave me a great tip today. She told me that she writes down her blog posts on a calendar. She’s able to organize her posts, which gives her a guideline for her website, etc to follow. I always want to participate in blog carnivals, but there are so many out there. By writing things down on a calendar, I’m able to pick and chose when and how I will write my blog posts. I will still so some random posts, but I needed a little structure. Thanks Kirsten!

I also learned how to properly clean the screen and keyboard for my new MacBook. It had umm, sneeze dots all over the screen. I like to call them “water spots”, but really they are most likey “sneeze dots”.

I’m sure that there are other things that I have learned. I truely belives that I learn something new everyday. But really, the ADHD takes over and I get forgetful. That’s why I started doing a calendar for my blog posts today!!

Angry Husband’s Secret…shhhh Don’t Tell Anyone

Angry Husband is a big fan of musicals…think “Grease”. We both have some alone time right now. Also known as “Angry Toddler is at preschool, so we have peace”. Angry Husband is painting his models and I’m reading my blogs, Twittering, etc.

Angry Husband has Apple TV shuffling songs. He put the “Grease” soundtrack on. Perhaps, he is correctly my singing of the songs. He’s like, “Um, that’s the wrong words. If you are going to sing along, please sing it right.” No joke, I’m serious.

Oh, and Stacey…Don’t tell him about this post. He will KILL me…Stacey and I have an inside joke about this whole obsession with musicals.

Over Usage of Mr. MacBook

Ever since I bought my new MacBook, I take it everywhere with me. It’s attached to my hip. I use it for everything. I have everything integrated into it now. I rarely use my PC anymore. Too bad that we are still making payments on it. I think Angry Husband is over the PC now.
Unfortunately, he still has to use the PC to program remote controls for work, etc. He also likes to play computer games, and he says that it takes forever for them to be on Apple. His loss. He barely knows how to work Mr. MacBook, which is probably a good thing.

I have sort of a problem though. With all of my usage of Mr. MacBook, it’s starting to look a little icky. I’m completely freaked out about cleaning it. I don’t want to screen the beautiful screen on it.

This is what I texted Angry Husband last night:

Umm, what do I use to clean the MacBook?

His response:

A micro-fiber cloth

My response:

Well I’ve done that. But how do I get all the water spots off the screen and the ick off the keyboard?

His response:

My response:
Do we have any? Where do I buy it?
Well folks, I came home early in the morning and found a bottle of it on our kitchen table. Angry Husband bought it at Best Buy.
Angry Husband works in the home theater biz. He has me completely freaked out about cleaning our monitors, LCDs, and Plasmas in the house. He says that you ALWAYS should clean them with a micro-fiber cloth and a product like Monster ScreenClean or something similar. He has seen so many TVs damaged from using the wrong products on them.
